Description

This Baked Brie recipe is a simple yet elegant appetizer featuring creamy, melted brie cheese baked to perfection and served with honey or maple syrup, fresh thyme, and crostini for scooping. It is perfect for entertaining or a cozy evening indulgence, offering a delightful blend of warm, gooey cheese and sweet, fresh accompaniments.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese

  • 250 – 500g (8 – 16 oz) round brie or camembert

Toppings (Optional)

  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 thyme sprig

To Serve

  • Crostini
  • 1 bunch purple grapes (or green grapes, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) suitable for all oven types to prepare for baking the brie.
  2. Prepare Brie: Unwrap the brie and place it into a small, shallow ovenproof dish slightly larger than the cheese to allow for serving. Alternatively, place it on a piece of crumbled baking or parchment paper if you plan to transfer it later.
  3. Bake Brie: Bake the brie in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes if using 250g (8oz), or until the cheese is melted and very soft in the center. For larger brie around 500g (1lb), increase baking time to about 25 minutes. To test doneness, gently press the center to ensure it feels soft and nearly collapsing.
  4. Microwave Alternative: If in a hurry, microwave the brie on high for 2 minutes in 30-second increments until melted. This method is a quick alternative but note traditional baking yields better texture.
  5. Transfer Carefully: After baking, carefully transfer the brie to a serving plate or board. If you used parchment paper, transfer along with it as the brie will be delicate.
  6. Add Toppings: Drizzle the warm melted brie with honey or maple syrup and place a sprig of thyme on top if using for added aroma and flavor.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately with crostini for dipping and scooping. Provide a knife for cutting through the rind and a cheese or pate knife to scoop the gooey cheese onto crostini or crackers, which can be plain or fruit/nut flavored.

Notes

  • Using a baking dish that fits snugly around the brie helps maintain its shape during baking.
  • Optional toppings like honey or maple syrup and thyme add a wonderful contrast to the cheese’s richness.
  • Grapes are an excellent fresh accompaniment that provide a burst of sweetness alongside the baked cheese.
  • For alternative methods, microwaving is a faster option but careful attention is needed to avoid overheating.
