Ingredients
Scale
Pizza Base
- 1 ball of pizza dough (about 12–14 oz)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Toppings
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce (plus more for drizzling)
- 1 cup cooked chicken breast, shredded
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded smoked gouda or cheddar cheese
- 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
- Chopped fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside so it heats up thoroughly. This ensures a crisp crust when baking.
- Prepare the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer the dough onto a piece of parchment paper for easy handling and transferring later.
- Season the Dough: Brush the dough evenly with olive oil, then sprinkle garlic powder and black pepper over the surface to add flavor to the crust.
- Add Sauce and Toppings: Spread the barbecue sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edge. Layer shredded chicken, mozzarella cheese, smoked gouda, and thinly sliced red onions on top of the sauce.
- Bake the Pizza: Carefully transfer the prepared pizza with the parchment paper onto the hot pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Finish and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven, drizzle extra barbecue sauce on top, and sprinkle with chopped fresh cilantro. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Rotisserie chicken works great for this recipe and saves time.
- For a crispier crust, bake directly on a pizza stone or steel without parchment paper.
- Add sliced jalapeños if you want a spicy kick.
- Try adding pineapple for a sweet twist to balance the smoky flavors.
