Ingredients
Scale
Noodles
- 8 oz lo mein noodles
Protein & Vegetables
- 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
Sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
Oils & Seasonings
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Optional Garnish
- Green onions, sliced
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Cook Noodles: Cook the lo mein noodles according to the package instructions, ensuring they are tender but not overcooked. Drain the noodles well and set aside to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Sauce: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, grated ginger, cornstarch, and water. Stir until smooth and set aside for later use.
- Cook Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced beef, season with salt and pepper, and stir-fry until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- Stir-Fry Vegetables: Using the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Add minced garlic, broccoli florets, and sliced red bell pepper. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender yet still crisp.
- Add Beef and Sauce: Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the ingredients and continue cooking, stirring regularly, until the sauce thickens and coats everything evenly, about 2-3 minutes.
- Toss with Noodles: Add the cooked lo mein noodles and sesame oil to the skillet. Toss everything together thoroughly to combine, letting the noodles absorb the flavors and heat through for another 1-2 minutes.
- Serve: Transfer the lo mein to serving plates or bowls. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
- Beef sirloin can be substituted with flank steak or ribeye if preferred.
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free soy sauce and oyster sauce alternatives.
- Adjust the thickness of the sauce by varying the amount of cornstarch and water.
- Add other vegetables like carrots or snap peas for extra color and nutrition.
- Make sure not to overcook the broccoli to keep its bright color and crunch.
