Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Sauce
- 1 ½ pounds beef stew meat or sirloin tips, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water
To Serve
- 2 cups cooked white rice
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Brown the Beef: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef tips and brown them on all sides, about 5–7 minutes. Once browned, remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
- Sauté Onion and Garlic: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, approximately 4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds to release their aroma.
- Simmer the Beef: Return the browned beef to the skillet. Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then cover the skillet and reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for 45–60 minutes, or until the beef is tender and flavors have melded.
- Thicken the Sauce: Stir in the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with cold water) into the skillet. Cook for another 2–3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens to a rich consistency.
- Serve: Spoon the beef tips and sauce over the cooked white rice. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve hot.
Notes
- For deeper flavor, substitute half of the beef broth with red wine.
