Description

This Air Fryer Okra recipe offers a crispy and flavorful way to enjoy fresh okra without deep frying. Coated in a seasoned breadcrumb and Parmesan mixture, then air fried to golden perfection, it makes for a healthy, delicious snack or side dish that’s ready in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Okra Preparation

  • 1 pound fresh okra

Breading and Coating

  • ½ cup all purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • ½ cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • â…“ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Optional

  • Ranch dressing or marinara (for serving)
  • Non-stick cooking spray (for air fryer basket)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat a 6-quart air fryer to 380℉ (193℃) for at least 3 minutes to ensure it’s hot enough for cooking.
  2. Prepare the Okra: Trim and discard the stems and ends of the okra pods, then slice them into ½-inch thick rounds for even cooking.
  3. Set up Breading Stations: Arrange three shallow bowls: one with all-purpose flour; one with whisked eggs and whole milk; and one with a mixture of Italian seasoned breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Bread the Okra: Coat a handful of okra pieces in flour, shaking off excess. Dip them into the egg wash, letting the excess drip off. Finally, press them into the breadcrumb mixture, coating all sides and shaking off extra crumbs.
  5. Air Fry the Okra: Place the breaded okra in a single layer inside the air fryer basket without overcrowding. Lightly spritz them with non-stick cooking spray. Cook at 380℉ for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking, until the okra is tender and crispy with golden-brown edges. Work in batches if necessary.
  6. Serve: Remove the cooked okra from the air fryer and serve immediately. Pair with ranch dressing or marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the okra is dry before coating to help the breading stick better.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow proper air circulation for even crispiness.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper quantity according to your spice preference.
  • Use parchment paper liners designed for air fryers if desired to reduce sticking.
  • To keep okra crispy after cooking, avoid covering with foil or stacking too soon.
