Ingredients
Scale
For the Mushrooms
- 500g button mushrooms, cleaned and trimmed
For the Breading
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
For Frying and Garnish
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Breading Station: Set up three shallow bowls. Place the flour in the first bowl. In the second, beat the eggs with the milk. In the third, combine the breadcrumbs with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Coat the Mushrooms: Dip each mushroom first into the flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Finally, press the mushroom into the breadcrumb mixture, coating it evenly and pressing gently to help the crumbs adhere.
- Heat the Oil: Pour about 1 inch of vegetable oil into a deep skillet and heat it over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.
- Fry the Mushrooms: Fry the breaded mushrooms in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, turning occasionally, until they turn golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Serve: Use a slotted spoon to remove mushrooms from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot, garnished with chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, double-dip the mushrooms in egg and breadcrumbs before frying.
- These are best served fresh with dipping sauces such as garlic aioli, ranch, or spicy mayo.
- To make an air-fried version, spray the breaded mushrooms lightly with oil and cook at 200°C (390°F) in the air fryer for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
