Description

Enjoy crispy, homemade wontons filled with flavorful ground meat and aromatic ingredients. These golden fried wontons are perfect as an appetizer or snack, with a crunchy exterior and savory interior, served best with your favorite dipping sauces.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1/2 lb ground meat (your choice)
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped water chestnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper

Assembly

  • 30 wonton wrappers
  • Water for sealing

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, water chestnuts, salt, and white pepper. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute all ingredients.
  2. Fill the wrappers: Place one wonton wrapper on a clean surface and spoon about 1 teaspoon of the filling into the center of the wrapper.
  3. Seal the wontons: Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, fold diagonally to form a triangle, pressing out any air pockets and sealing the edges tightly. For a traditional shape, bring the two opposite corners together and seal with a dab of water.
  4. Heat oil: Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or wok to 350°F (175°C), ensuring there is enough oil to fully submerge the wontons for even frying.
  5. Fry the wontons: Fry the wontons in batches for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally to achieve even golden brown and crisp texture. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  6. Serve: Serve the wontons hot with soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce for a delicious appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • Water chestnuts add a nice crunch but can be omitted if unavailable.
  • Ensure the oil temperature stays around 350°F for perfect frying results.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan while frying to maintain temperature and crispiness.
  • Leftover filling can be stored for up to 1 day in the refrigerator.
  • Wontons are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in an air fryer for a few minutes to maintain crispness.
