Description

Enjoy a warm and crispy treat with these Fried Apple Slices, featuring tart apples coated in a cinnamon-spiced batter and fried to golden perfection. Perfect for a cozy fall dessert, these sweet apple slices are easy to make on the stovetop and make a delightful snack or dessert option.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples

  • 3 large apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch rounds

Batter

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Frying and Topping

  • Vegetable oil for frying (about 1/2 inch in skillet)
  • Powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix until you have a smooth batter.
  2. Heat the oil: Pour about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil into a skillet and heat over medium heat until it shimmers and reaches approximately 350°F, ideal for frying.
  3. Batter the apple slices: Dip each peeled and sliced apple round into the batter, allowing excess to drip off to avoid clumps.
  4. Fry the apple slices: Carefully place the battered apple slices in the hot oil. Fry them for 2–3 minutes on each side or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Work in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, which can reduce crispiness.
  5. Drain and serve: Transfer the fried apple slices to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil. While still warm, dust them with powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a nice contrast to the sweet batter.
  • For extra crispness, dredge apple slices lightly in flour before dipping into the batter.
  • These fried apple slices are best enjoyed warm and fresh for optimal texture and flavor.
