Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
Sauces and Liquids
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Heat the skillet: Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the olive oil, allowing it to become hot enough for cooking.
- Cook ground beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula or wooden spoon and cook until fully browned, about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Prepare broccoli: While the beef cooks, rinse and cut broccoli into bite-sized florets.
- Remove beef: Once browned, use a slotted spoon to remove ground beef from the skillet, leaving any rendered fat behind.
- Sauté garlic: In the same skillet, add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Cook broccoli: Add broccoli florets to the skillet and stir to mix with the garlic.
- Steam broccoli: Pour in beef broth and water, cover the skillet with a lid, and steam broccoli for 5 to 7 minutes until tender but still slightly crisp.
- Make sauce: In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, ground ginger, black pepper, sesame oil, and cornstarch until smooth and fully dissolved.
- Combine beef and broccoli: Return browned ground beef to the skillet once broccoli is cooked.
- Add sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and broccoli, stirring to coat evenly.
- Simmer: Let the sauce simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until it thickens slightly.
- Adjust seasoning: Taste and add more soy sauce or black pepper if desired for seasoning balance.
- Finish and serve: Remove the skillet from heat once sauce is thickened and serve the ground beef and broccoli hot over rice or noodles.
Notes
- To increase veggies, add sliced carrots or bell peppers along with broccoli.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute soy sauce with tamari and ensure oyster sauce is gluten-free.
- Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content.
- Optional: Garnish with chopped green onions or sesame seeds for extra flavor and texture.
- Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat on the stovetop or microwave.
