Ingredients
Scale
Halibut Fillets
- 4 halibut fillets (about 6 ounces each)
Topping Mixture
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
Garnish (optional)
- Lemon wedges
- Chopped parsley
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven broiler and lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with foil to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
- Prepare the Halibut: Pat the halibut fillets dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture and place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
- Make the Parmesan Mixture: In a small bowl, combine grated Parmesan cheese, softened butter, mayonnaise, fresh lemon juice, dried basil, onion powder, salt, and ground black pepper. Mix thoroughly until a smooth, spreadable paste forms.
- Initial Broil: Place the baking sheet under the broiler and cook the halibut fillets for 4 to 5 minutes until they are almost cooked through but not fully done.
- Add Topping: Carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven and evenly spread the prepared Parmesan mixture over the top of each halibut fillet.
- Final Broil: Return the baking sheet to the broiler and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown, bubbly, and the fish flakes easily with a fork.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately, garnished with fresh lemon wedges and a sprinkle of chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
- Watch the broiler closely to prevent the topping from burning, as broiler temperatures can vary.
- You can substitute other mild white fish such as cod or tilapia if halibut is not available or preferred.
- For a complete meal, serve this broiled halibut with steamed vegetables or a light mixed green salad.
