Ingredients
Scale
Shrimp and Breading
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Vegetable oil for frying
Hot Honey Sauce
- ½ cup honey
- 2 tablespoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Prepare the hot honey sauce. In a small saucepan, combine honey, hot sauce, butter, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Heat over medium heat until the butter melts and the mixture is smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare the shrimp. Rinse shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Set aside.
- Mix the dry ingredients. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
- Prepare the egg wash. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs together with milk until fully combined.
- Heat the oil. Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan or frying pot and heat over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Bread the shrimp. Dredge each shrimp first in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess, then dip in the egg mixture, and finally coat again in the flour mixture to ensure a crispy crust.
- Fry the shrimp. Carefully place shrimp in the hot oil in small batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and fully cooked. Remove the shrimp and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Toss in sauce. Once all shrimp are fried, immediately toss them gently in the prepared hot honey sauce until evenly coated.
- Serve. Serve the hot honey fried shrimp immediately with extra sauce on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Ensure the oil temperature stays around 350°F for crispy and evenly cooked shrimp.
- Do not overcrowd the pan to maintain oil temperature and avoid soggy coating.
- Adjust the amount of hot sauce and red pepper flakes in the sauce to control heat level.
- Peeling and deveining the shrimp beforehand ensures a better texture and easy eating.
- Use a thermometer to monitor oil temperature for best frying results.
