Ingredients

Scale

Beef & Bacon Layer

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 8 strips cooked bacon, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Garlic Parmesan Sauce

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2½ cups whole milk
  • ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Additional

  • 9 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef and bacon layer: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is softened. Stir in the cooked, chopped bacon, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix well and cook for an additional 2 minutes to combine flavors. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Make the cheese mixture: In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, and garlic powder. Stir until smooth and set aside.
  3. Prepare the garlic Parmesan sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for about 1 minute to form a roux. Gradually whisk in the whole milk, ensuring no lumps form. Continue cooking and stirring until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and garlic powder until fully incorporated.
  4. Assemble the lasagna: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of garlic Parmesan sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. Layer 3 cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread one-third of the beef and bacon mixture over the noodles. Drop spoonfuls of one-third of the ricotta cheese mixture over the meat layer. Pour a third of the garlic Parmesan sauce over the ricotta. Sprinkle one-third of the mozzarella and cheddar cheese over the top. Repeat these layers two more times, finishing with the cheese on top.
  5. Bake the lasagna: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese on top is melted and golden brown.
  6. Rest and serve: Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for 10-15 minutes to set. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Slice and serve warm for a satisfying meal.

Notes

  • To save time, use pre-cooked bacon or substitute with smoked sausage for a different flavor profile.
  • Ensure the lasagna noodles are cooked al dente to avoid mushy layers.
  • You can prepare the lasagna a day ahead and refrigerate before baking for enhanced flavor.
  • For a lower fat option, use lean ground beef and reduce cheese quantities.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
