Description

These Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese Sliders combine creamy, cheesy macaroni with savory pulled pork, all nestled inside buttery slider buns. Perfect for game day or a fun party appetizer, these sliders bake to golden perfection with a flavorful garlic-butter topping and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

Scale

Mac and Cheese

  • 1 cup uncooked macaroni noodles
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon ground mustard
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese

Sliders

  • 12 slider buns
  • 2-3 tablespoons butter (for spreading on buns)
  • 24 oz. prepared pulled pork (shredded, approximately 3 cups)

Topping

  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Cook Macaroni: Preheat your oven to 350℉. Cook the macaroni noodles according to the package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  2. Make the Roux: While the macaroni cooks, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour, salt, pepper, and ground mustard, and cook for about 1 minute, whisking constantly to form a smooth paste.
  3. Add Milk and Thicken: Increase heat to medium-high and gradually whisk in the milk. Continue stirring until the mixture thickens to a creamy sauce consistency.
  4. Melt Cheese: Whisk in the grated sharp cheddar cheese until fully melted and smooth. Remove the cheese sauce from heat and set aside.
  5. Heat Pulled Pork: Warm the prepared pulled pork in the microwave according to the package instructions.
  6. Prepare Slider Buns: Use a large serrated knife to cut the slider buns in half. Spread the bottom halves with 2 to 3 tablespoons of butter, then arrange them in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan.
  7. Assemble Sliders – Pork Layer: Evenly spread the warmed pulled pork over the buttered bottom halves of the buns.
  8. Assemble Sliders – Mac & Cheese Layer: Spoon the prepared mac and cheese evenly atop the pulled pork layer.
  9. Top Buns: Place the top halves of the slider buns on top of the mac and cheese layer to form sandwiches.
  10. Prepare and Apply Topping: In a small bowl, mix 3 tablespoons of melted butter with garlic salt, dried parsley, and brown sugar. Brush this mixture generously over the tops of the slider buns.
  11. Add Parmesan and Bake: Sprinkle the grated parmesan cheese evenly over the buttered bun tops. Bake the assembled sliders in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the sliders are heated through.
  12. Serve: Serve the sliders hot or at room temperature for a delicious, crowd-pleasing treat.

Notes

  • Use sharp cheddar for a bold, rich cheese flavor in the mac and cheese.
  • Butter the bottom buns for added moisture and flavor and to prevent sogginess.
  • You can prepare the pulled pork ahead of time or use store-bought to save time.
  • The garlic butter topping adds a sweet and savory crust; don’t skip it.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
