Description

This Sticky Ginger Beef Mince is a flavorful and quick-to-make dish combining tender ground beef with a sticky, sweet-savory sauce infused with fresh ginger, garlic, and a hint of chili. Perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner, this recipe balances umami-rich soy sauce, fragrant sesame oil, and a touch of honey to create a deliciously sticky glaze that coats every bite. Garnished with crunchy spring onions and toasted sesame seeds, it pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 500 g beef mince (ground beef)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 red chili, finely sliced (optional)

Sauce and Garnish

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup beef stock or water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 spring onions, sliced for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the beef mince and cook until browned and cooked through, breaking up the mince with a spoon. Remove the browned beef from the pan and set aside.
  2. Sauté aromatics: In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sliced chili if using. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
  3. Return beef to pan: Reduce the heat to medium and add the cooked beef mince back to the pan.
  4. Add sauce ingredients: In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and beef stock. Pour this mixture over the beef mince and stir well to combine.
  5. Simmer flavors: Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Thicken sauce: Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to a sticky consistency. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  7. Finish and serve: Remove the pan from heat once the sauce has thickened. Transfer the sticky ginger beef mince to a serving dish.
  8. Garnish: Sprinkle sliced spring onions and sesame seeds on top. Serve hot with rice or noodles.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of chili according to your heat preference or omit it altogether for a milder dish.
  • Beef stock can be substituted with water or vegetable stock if preferred.
  • For extra texture, add finely chopped vegetables such as bell peppers or carrots when sautéing the aromatics.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce for a reduced salt version.
  • This dish reheats well and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
