Description

This Sticky Honey Chicken recipe features tender, bite-sized pieces of chicken thighs or breasts coated in a luscious, sweet, and savory honey-soy sauce. Cooked in a skillet on the stovetop, the chicken is perfectly golden and glazed with a thickened sauce made with honey, soy sauce, garlic, and a hint of ginger and sesame oil. Garnished with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions, this quick and delicious dish is perfect for a flavorful weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 500 g (1 lb) chicken thighs or breasts, boneless and skinless, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Sauce

  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water (cornstarch slurry)

Garnish

  • Toasted sesame seeds
  • Sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Cook the Chicken: Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Brown the Chicken: Cook the chicken pieces in a single layer for 4-5 minutes per side until golden and fully cooked through. Then, remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Sauce: Reduce the heat to medium in the same skillet.
  4. Combine Sauce Ingredients: Add honey, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil (if using), minced garlic, and grated ginger to the skillet and stir to combine.
  5. Thicken the Sauce: Bring the sauce mixture to a simmer, then stir in the cornstarch slurry. Continue stirring for about 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  6. Coat the Chicken: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss to coat evenly with the sticky honey sauce.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the top before serving for added flavor and crunch.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs for juicier results, or chicken breasts for a leaner option.
  • Adjust the amount of honey to your preferred sweetness level.
  • Sesame oil and fresh ginger are optional but add authentic Asian flavor.
  • Serve with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop.
